AFTERCARE
**black & grey**
Please remember for the first few days your tattoo will look like a ‘tattoo’ however do not forget it is still an open wound. At this stage it is extremely important to keep it clean and take care of it properly to avoid potential infection or improper healing.
Remove bandage after designated amount of time and wash tattoo immediately afterward. When washing your new tattoo be sure to use water as warm as you can tolerate and Liquid Dial Antibacterial Hand Soap (Dial Gold). While washing only use your clean hand and not a wash rag as that will be too abrasive for your new tattoo.
Let the warm water run over your tattoo for about 30 seconds to a min. During this time it will burn and be sensitive however after a little while the warm water will actually feel soothing. At this point lather up your tattoo and cleanse thoroughly. Once any blood, plasma or excess ink is removed and the tattoo is clean, allow the tattoo to air dry or you may pat it dry with a clean paper towel. Be sure to avoid a bath or hand towel as there may be bacteria on this. It is better to use a single use paper towel to avoid any potential contamination of your new tattoo.
You will wash your tattoo like this for the duration of two weeks for two to three times daily unless otherwise specified.
After the tattoo is dry apply a thin layer of Aquaphor or Hustle Butter. Be sure to not put too much ointment on as it may clog the pores possibly causing a break out on and around the tattoo. In addition to this applying too much ointment may pull out the ink from your new tattoo as well. Keep in mind that less is more. Only apply the ointment after the tattoo has been cleaned and never reapply without washing your tattoo first. You will apply the ointment for the duration of 3 - 5 days after receiving your tattoo depending on how your body heals.
Once your tattoo is no longer an open wound you will discontinue the ointment and apply unscented lotion in it’s place. This usually happens after the 3 - 5 day period. Some people may take longer as everyone’s body heals differently. You will know when your tattoo is ready when the skin starts to flake and peel similar to a sunburn. An unscented lotion like Curel or Lubridem works great. Like the ointment, apply the lotion after washing. At this stage your tattoo will most likely be itchy. Do not scratch or pick it and it is OK to apply a little bit of lotion in between washings to help subdue any itching.
For two weeks after receiving your tattoo do not swim, soak in a bath tub, go tanning, leave it exposed in the sun, pick at it, etc. The better you care for your tattoo the better it will heal and the nicer it will look. Protect your investment.

After the tattoo is dry rewrap it with a fresh piece of cling wrap. Depending on the location of your tattoo, you might need a friend to help you. Make sure hands are thoroughly washed before you or a friend wraps the tattoo. Do not apply any ointment or lotion at this stage as what heals your tattoo will be your own body fluids. Do your best to get an air tight seal on the tattooed area itself. This is important as to not allow anything foreign to come into the covered area and to not allow the air to dry your tattoo. You will do this between 2 to 3 times daily for a full 3 days (36 hours) If you feel something foreign has come in contact with your new tattoo, do not leave it wrapped. Wash immediately and rewrap said area.
After the 72 hours, you no longer need to wrap your tattoo, only continue with the daily washing and apply unscented lotion in it’s place. At this point your tattoo should be flaking and peeling - similar to a sunburn. An unscented lotion like Curel or Lubridem works great. Apply the lotion after washing.
